" I have a love in my life. It makes me stronger than anything you can imagine. I would say 'that's that', Mattress Man."
This is the first film of the year I've watched which hasn't been new to me. Punch-Drunk Love is definitely up there as one of my favourite films of all time and it's been a while since I last watched it so it was great to come in reasonably fresh. Just everything about this film is perfect in my eyes. The absolutely flawless direction by Paul Thomas Anderson. Jon Brions wondrous score, which I think is possibly my favourite part of the film, the way it builds up the tension and really forces you into Barry Eagan's shoes. Then there's Adam Sander, someone I don't often find myself praising, but he portrayal as the aforementioned Eagan is just pitch perfect. If anything this film has ruined him as an actor for me, how can he make this and then go on to do the drivel he's produced for the last decade? The list could go on and on, but really for me though, the thing I really love about Punch-Drunk Love above how perfectly crafted it is. Is how it manages to encapsulate that feeling of falling in love, how it blots everything else out and just consumes you.
