"They Played Blues to punk rockers, what's more punk than that?"
I think it's really easy to mistake The Minute men for a simple punk rock band, what with their short powerful songs and everything, but they're far from that and We Jam Econo does a really great job of showing the complexities of the band, from their musical inspirations to their ideologies as a band. The Minutemen are a perfect representation of the kind of 'punk rock' I love. None of the stupid leather jackets and studs and mohawks and all that shit. They're just a group of misfits doing what they wanted to do and making the music that they wanted to do. Music which happens to be breathtakingly amazing. Granted it's no revolutionary documentary, just your standard talking heads inter cut with clips of the band playing, which isn't a complaint, it works really well in this context and I would have happily watched an hour and a half of just clips of them playing live, man did they know how to play! If only D. Boon was still around, I would love to have seen the records he'd be putting out now.
