05 / Children of the Corn / Fritz Kiersch

I've always had a soft spot for film adaptations of Stephen Kings work. Not just the well regarded ones either, but the terribly cheesy ones. Like I think one of my favourites is The Night Flier, which I remember catching on TV late one night and being absolutely terrified of. I had really vivid memories of hearing someone rustling around the house as the reporter played Miguel Ferrer traced the deadly vampire. But ok, I've got sidetracked. Children of the Corn kind of fits in the middle of good and cheesy, edging more towards the latter. I can't say I was really scared by any of it, but I think most of that comes down to the fact as a story, it's been so well parodied in so many mediums it's kind of lost it's effect. I won't explain the plot here, as I feel pretty certain everyone has a vague understanding of it. Saying I wasn't scared by it though isn't exactly a bad thing, I still thoroughly enjoyed watching it, there where a couple of genuinely tense moments and although the acting was kind of hammy and the effects where extremely dated that all kind of added to the whole experience of it.
