22 / All Tomorrow's Parties / Jonathan Caouette
It's weird to think how much a festival I've never even been to has helped shape my musical tastes over the last 10 years. I remember the first time I heard about ATP I was probably 15 or 16 and saw a feature about it on Channel 4 late at night that literally blew me away. There was all this insane music that I hadn't heard of on TV and I needed to be part of that. Since then I've kind of used the festival line ups as a way to flesh out my music knowledge and discover a hell of a lot of my favourite bands. I've been to plenty of the companies London shows, but I've never made that pilgrimage to Camber Sands and now, after watching All Tomorrow's Parties, a very lose documentary showing the antics that go on there, I have an urge to get down there. Overall the documentary doesn't exactly have a narrative, it's just a collection of performances from the festival intercut with footage obtained from festival goers through the years. It's done really artfully though and never feels forced at all. It feels very true to what I imagine the feeling of attending ATP must be like and makes me want to go even more than I already do. It's just not the same experience watching all these amazing acts snuggled up in bed on a monday morning.
