10 / The Lorax / Chris Renaud & Kyle Balda
I didn't go into watching The Lorax expecting anything revolutionary, or even good to be honest, It's just a snowy day and I wanted something easy to watch in bed. Which it was. What bothers me about the film though is that it seems to think that what it's doing is something revolutionary and amazing. The whole film just feels so god damn smug about itself. It's like I get that the message portrayed here is a good one that kids should be aware of, but come on, everyone already knows that and showing it to us with a lot of big stars and awful musical numbers doesn't in anyway help the situation. I mean the idea of having Zac Efron and Taylor Swift in a story all about the dangers of big corporations and homogenization and blah blah blah is just the most hypocritical thing I can think of. Yeah it's a half decent, well made film. But It's not like it's a film of the calibre of say Wall-E or The Iron Giant like it seems to think it is.
